Facility: US MAGNESIUM L.L.C.

Safety Claim: "...the hydrogen chloride is so diluted when it comes out of the smoke stacks that it couldn't hurt a pack of flying geese, let alone the school children in Grantsville."

Supporting Evidence for Safety of Air Releases:
(EDF has invited this facility to provide supporting evidence for its safety claim. Data in boxes are supplied by the facility; empty boxes indicate no response to EDF's invitation.)

When a facility makes a safety claim about its air releases of TRI chemicals, and the information required for safety assessment is not already in the public record or easily accessible to the public, Scorecard offers the facility this page as a way to make that information available to the public.

Technical Explanation:
Scorecard follows the methodology outlined in California's Air Toxics "Hot Spots" Program, which requires a facility to provide two pieces of information for each chemical that it releases:
  • annual average ambient concentration, and
  • maximum one-hour ambient concentration.
These two pieces of information make it possible to calculate exposure to the chemical in the vicinity of the facility. Any facility wishing to submit these pieces of information for posting in Scorecard should go to the Facility Registration Form.
