List: Criteria Air Pollutants (Clean Air Act)
Description
The federal Clean Air Act (CAA) establishes the regulatory framework for the control of air pollutants. Section 108 authorizes the U.S. EPA to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for criteria air pollutants to protect public health and the environment.

Criteria air pollutants must meet the following criteria:
1. Emissions cause or contribute to air pollution that may reasonably be anticipated to endanger public health or welfare.
2. Presence in the ambient air results from numerous or diverse mobile or stationary sources.
